Eurasian lynx

Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx) – a predatory mammal of the cat family. Inhabits Europe and Asia. Beside the wildcat, it is the sole representative of felines living in the wild in Poland. It is also one of the largest predators in Europe.

Adults attain a body length of 100 to 150 cm, height between 50 and 70 cm, and weight up to 35 kg. A characteristic feature of this species is the endings of the ears that focus sound waves and help tune their sense of hearing, and they are brushes of stiff, black hair. Lynx has a round head, a stocky body mounted on long, strong legs and feet ended with retractable claws.

The oldest pair of lynxes - Orkan and Pandora constitute the core of our herd. For many years, they have been exemplary parents, every year they raise two young. Interestingly, they themselves do not climb up trees or platforms located approx. 10 meters above the ground, but their offspring do so.

In March 2016, a three-year old male, Orpan, left for new home in Pomerania, where he was joined with a female from Zamość - Róża. The offspring of these two will take part in reintroduction program, so they will learn to live in the wild. In June 2016, a female was born.
